IS FACEBOOK THE NEW RESUME?

Do employers have the right to ask applicants to see their Facebook pages? I do believe that employers have a right to see someone’s Facebook page before hiring them. If someone is dumb enough to post inappropriate photos or comments for the world to view, what would they post about a company they would end up working for. When you’re hired by a company you represent them even off hours and some people fail to realize that. That company hired you and if you’re post questionable things on Facebook, maybe the company doesn’t want to attach there name to your views. That being said I believe that job applicants should be smarter when it comes to using social networks and not post anything that could be deemed inappropriate. It's because of this a few of my friends went ahead and deleted there Facebook pages before they started the job interviewing process. They didn't want to lose out on a great career because of something dumb that they or someone else said on their Facebook wall. Granted these people were applying to be state troopers and were being held to extremely high standards, but hidden or not the state demanded to see there pages (If they had pages). In closing I listed a few reasons in this post as to why I believe employers have a right to view potential applicant’s pages. I know some will disagree, but I think in the end employers just want to make sure they are hiring people who will represent their brand in a positive light.
